Latest Crypto ETF Developments: Litecoin, XRP, Dogecoin & More

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have long been seen as a bridge between traditional finance and the crypto world. Over the past few weeks, the conversation around crypto ETFs has accelerated, with major developments suggesting that digital assets are getting closer to full-scale institutional acceptance.

Litecoin ETF Gains Traction

Litecoin has been in the spotlight as its ETF application, filed by Canary Capital on January 16, has advanced to the next stage of regulatory review. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has officially acknowledged the proposal, starting off a structured review process that includes a public feedback period. While this doesn’t mean automatic approval, it marks significant progress.

Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas has called the Litecoin ETF proposal the most advanced of its kind. This alone has sparked optimism, not just for Litecoin but for the broader altcoin market. If Litecoin gains approval, it could open the door for similar ETFs – particularly for Dogecoin, which shares Litecoin’s technical foundation.

Dogecoin ETF: More Than Just a Meme

The idea of a Spot Dogecoin ETF seemed far-fetched not long ago. However, Bitwise Asset Management has filed an official proposal, and the odds of approval on prediction on Polymarket have soared. The logic is simple: if Litecoin, the blockchain from which Dogecoin was forked, gets an ETF, why not DOGE?

Skeptics argue that Dogecoin’s meme-driven culture and historical volatility could be barriers. But institutional interest is growing, with Grayscale now offering a Dogecoin Trust. That alone suggests some major players are seeing DOGE as a serious asset, rather than just internet joke money.

XRP ETF: A Canadian First?

Purpose Investments – the firm that launched the world’s first spot Bitcoin ETF – is setting its sights on XRP. The company has submitted a proposal for an XRP ETF in Canada, betting on rising institutional demand. CEO Som Seif believes XRP’s increasing adoption justifies the move.

Meanwhile, Grayscale has also filed for its XRP Trust to be converted into an ETF on the NYSE. This would be a major milestone, as the trust already holds $16 million worth of XRP. The regulatory landscape around XRP is still shaped by the Ripple vs. SEC legal battle, but the final ruling in Ripple’s favor has certainly helped its case.

Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF Gets the Go-Ahead

While new altcoin ETFs are still being debated, one major approval has already happened. The SEC has officially approved the listing and trading of Bitwise’s Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF on the NYSE. This hybrid fund gives investors exposure to both Bitcoin and Ethereum in a single product, with weightings based on market capitalization – currently 83% BTC and 17% ETH.

This is a big deal for investors who want exposure to the two largest cryptocurrencies but prefer the simplicity of a single ETF. It also hints at a future where multi-asset crypto ETFs become more common. If Litecoin, Dogecoin, and XRP secure their own ETFs, could we see a broader “Altcoin Index Fund” down the road? It’s not out of the question.

The Bigger Picture: A New Era for Crypto?

With Donald Trump back in the White House and SEC leadership shifting toward a more crypto-friendly stance, investors are increasingly confident that altcoin ETFs are only a matter of time. Prediction markets reflect this sentiment, with odds of multiple approvals surpassing 80% for 2025.

Still, there are no guarantees. The SEC has historically been cautious when it comes to crypto, and unforeseen regulatory roadblocks could still emerge. But with Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs already paving the way, it feels like we’re watching a tipping point unfold.

If Litecoin, Dogecoin, and XRP all get their own ETFs, crypto’s path to mainstream institutional adoption will be clearer than ever. The next few months could define the future of digital asset investing – one ETF at a time.
